We cuddle them and nurse them when ill, force them to do their homework or clean up their rooms, all the while we watch them grow and wonder, "what will they be when they grow up?" Allowing them the freedom to explore, test, fail and discover for themselves what they love and encouraging them to do it is the key to a confident and courageous life.
Although it is a bit nerve-racking to watch your child hurl their body up in the air, praying they don't misplace the pole and slam into the box (like one boy did), here is my son Grant, who I'm so proud of. He is in his first junior high school pole-vaulting tournament and he set the school record at 9 ' 6".
